During our recent city break at Residenza Gia Antico Forno, I was delighted by its prime location just a stone's throw from the enchanting Matera Cathedral and the vibrant heart of the city. Our room, complete with a lovely private terrace, offered breathtaking views, perfect for winding down with a glass of wine while soaking up the local atmosphere. While the charming ambiance came with certain quirks, such as the loud church bells ringing twice daily and the narrow staircase that tested our patience, the experience was well worth it. One standout aspect was the excellent communication with Mattia, the owner, who was incredibly friendly and ensured we felt at home throughout our stay. Breakfast was a treat at a nearby café, where fresh croissants paired beautifully with rich Italian coffee. For families like mine, while the stairs and open terrace present some challenges, this cozy retreat promises a memorable escape into the stunning backdrop of Matera.
